A Bit About me

Welcome to my personal weblog! I have many areas of interest as a Christian wife and home schooling mother of 6 girls: writing, poetry, website design, digital photography, a home business (sewing); however, this blog will focus more on the wonderful journey the Lord has brought our family through and what the Lord has shown me in His Holy Word.

I know that my devotionals don't often speak of specifics in our lives, but I want my readers to know that what I write comes most often from what the Lord is doing in our lives, or has done. I don't just repeat words by this preacher or that one. My devotionals are often written through a haze of tears, sometimes in grief, sometimes in peace at God's goodness for what He is doing for our good. At other times, after a flood of tears over my lack of faith in His great plan for us, especially after I've seen Heaven's gates open in another miraculous answer to prayer. What I write is what God shows me through those trials which He brings because of His great goodness as He works out His perfect plan. - Angela.

The Sacrifices of the Wicked

Make a Joyful Noise unto the LORD

I was sent a link to a rendition of Amazing Grace, and truly, it is probably one of the best, if not the best, rendition I have ever heard. Yet, when I researched the group (which I had never heard of before, they are “famous” in secular circles), not a one even claims to be a Christian let alone saved. As I watched their eyes, there was truly no comprehension there, just showmanship. My heart has been torn with grief to hear such a soul stirring song sung by people that have no comprehension of what it means. I have cried for them and prayed for their salvation over the last couple weeks.

As I was pondering over how beautiful it sounded, and how feeble my attempts are sometimes, I was reminded of this verse and others:

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. Proverbs 15:8

On the flip-side, God talks about how His children are to offer Him the sacrifice of praise and singing:

Jer 17:26 And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise, unto the house of the LORD.
Jer 33:11 The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the LORD.
Heb 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise, unto the house of the LORD. Jer 17:26

The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the LORD. Jer 33:11

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. Heb 13:15

And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD. Psalms 27:6

Regardless of what I think my voice sounds, I am commanded to make a “joyful noise unto Him”. It is obvious by the context of these verses that the Lord is talking about singing.

Ps 66:1-2  Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands: Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.

Ps 81:1 Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.

Ps 95:1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

Ps 95:2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

Ps 98:4 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

Ps 98:6 With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.

Ps 100:1 A Psalm of praise. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.

God is not pleased with the empty song sacrifices of the lost, but when his children truly sing to Him, that is well pleasing.

I just recalled an incident when I was in the hospital a few months ago to have my gall bladder removed. I was in a room with 3 other people, one of which was not pleasant. I had had enough, so I just started humming various hymns. When one of the nurses heard me sing Blessed Assurance by Fanny Crosby, she thanked me and said that it was her mother’s favorite. I got to witness to her, found out she was saved, but not attending church.

I don’t know if anything will come of what happened, but that event and the song that spurred on this devotional have been an encouragement for me to not be ashamed to sing/hum for my Lord, and have stirred me on to sing again in my life. I’ve still been singing for church, but I used to sing all the time at home and hum when shopping, and I’m not really sure what “stole” my song away. This has helped to renew my zeal to praise the Lord in song, regardless of how I sound. I’ve even found myself humming again as I’m shopping.

Praise His glorious name!!!!

Does God Exist?

This is an excellent illustration. I hope it can be of use. My only regret is that Albert Einstein was only agnostic, not a born-again child of the living God.

Scientists Who Believe the Bible

In April 2009, Terry Mortenson of the Creation Museum in America, said: “There are literally thousands of scientists around the world that believe the Bible. There is an organization in the United States with 700 scientists who have a Masters or Ph.D. in the hard sciences.

[Enlarged September 5, 2009 (first published August 8, 2009) (David Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. High Schools, colleges, and universities typically teach only one theory of origins, that being evolution, and the students are not presented with a creationist viewpoint. In fact, they are often given the idea that no true scientist today is a creationist. When the National Academy of Sciences in America published an educational tool in 1998 entitled Teaching about Evolution and the Nature of Science, they posed this question, “Don’t many scientists reject evolution?â€? The answer was, “No; the scientific consensus around evolution is overwhelming.â€?

Richard Dawkins, a brash atheist and anti-creationist, says in his recent book The Greatest Show in Earth, “Evolution is a fact. Beyond reasonable doubt, beyond serious doubt, beyond sane, informed, intelligent doubt, beyond doubt evolution is a fact. … Evolution is a fact, and [my] book will demonstrate it. No reputable scientist disputes it, and no unbiased reader will close the book doubting it.â€?

According to Dawkins, if you reject evolution, you are unintelligent and your sanity should be questioned, and he proclaims that no reputable scientist disputes it.

In fact, modern science was invented by men who believed in divine creation. In his book Refuting Evolution, Jonathan Sarfati, who has a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand, and is a national chess champion, says:

“It is fallacious to claim, as many evolutionists do, that believing in miracles means that laboratory science would be impossible. In fact, most branches of modern science were founded by believers in the Bible’s account of creation.â€?

Consider some samples:

Physics — Newton, Faraday, Maxwell, Kelvin, Joule
Chemistry – Boyle, Dalton, Ramsay
Biology – Ray, Linnaeus, Mendel, Pasteur, Virchow, Agassiz
Geology – Steno, Woodward, Brewster, Buckland, Cuvier
Astronomy – Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, Herschel, Maunder
Mathematics – Pascal, Leibniz, Euler

In 1979, Science Digest reported that “scientists who utterly reject Evolution may be one of our fastest-growing controversial minorities,â€? and stated that, “Many of the scientists supporting this position hold impressive credentials in scienceâ€? (Larry Hatfield, “Educators Against Darwin,â€? Science Digest Special, Winter 1979, pp. 94-96).

Dr. Sarfati continues:

“Even today, many scientists reject evolution. The Creation Ministries International staff scientists have published many scientific papers in their own fields. Dr. Russell Humphreys, a nuclear physicist working with Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has had over 20 articles published in physics journals, while Dr. John Baumgardner’s catastrophic plate tectonics theory was reported in Nature magazine. Dr. Edward Boudreaux of the University of New Orleans has published 26 articles and four books in physical chemistry. Dr. Maciej Giertych, head of the Department of Genetics at the Institute of Dendrology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, has published 90 papers in scientific journals. Dr. Raymond Jones was described as one of Australia’s top scientists for his discoveries about the legume Leucaena and bacterial symbiosis with grazing animals, worth millions of dollars per year to Australia. Dr. Brian Stone has won a record number of awa rds for excellence in engineering teaching at Australian universitiesâ€? (Jonathan Sarfati, Refuting Evolution, 2007, pp. 26-28).

I guess Dawkins forgot about those scientists.

The man behind the Apollo moon mission, rocket scientist Wernher von Braun, believed that God created the world.

Duane Gish has a Ph.D. in biochemistry and worked for many years in pharmaceutical research at Cornell University, the University of California, and the Upjohn Company. “As a biochemist, he has synthesized peptides, compounds intermediate between amino acids and proteins. He has been co-author of a number of outstanding publications in peptide chemistry.â€? Gish lists the following scientists who reject evolution and believe in creationism. Let’s see if any of them might be considered “reputable.â€?

“While it is true that creationists among scientists definitely constitute a minority, there are many creation scientists, and their number is growing. Among these may be numbered such well-established scientists as the late Dr. W. R. Thompson, world-famous biologist and former Director of the Commonwealth Institute of Biological Control of Canada; Dr. Melvin A. Cook, winner of the 1968 E. G. Murphee Award in Industrial and Engineering Chemistry from the American Chemical Society and also winner of the Nobel Nitro Award, now president of the Ireco Chemical Company, Salt Lake City; Dr. Henry M. Morris, for thirteen years Professor of Hydraulic Engineering and Head of the Civil Engineering Department of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and University, one of the largest in the U.S. Dr. Walter Lammerts, geneticist and famous plant breeder, the late Dr. Frank Marsh, Professor of Biology at Andrews University until his retirement; the late Dr. J.J. Duyvene De Wit, Professor of Zoology at the University of the Orange Free State, South Africa, at the time of his death; Dr. Thomas G. Barnes, Professor Emeritus of Physics at the University of Texas at El Paso; Dr. Dmitri Kouznetsov, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc., winner of the Komosmol Lenin Prize in 1983 as one of the two most promising young scientists in the Soviet Union, and winner of the Council of Ministries Prize of the USSR in 1986 for his research in biochemistryâ€? (Evolution: The Fossils Still Say No, 1995, pp. 13, 14).

A.E. Wilder-Smith (1915-1995), who defended creationism against evolution in his many books, had three Ph.D.s, one in physical organic chemistry from Reading University, England, one in pharmacology from the University of Geneva, and one in pharmacological sciences from ETH, a senior university in Zurich, Switzerland. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a NATO three-star general, Dr. Wilder-Smith was an expert on chemotherapy, pharmacology, organic chemistry, and biochemistry.

Raymond Damadian, M.D., biophysicist, is the recipient of the Lemelson-MIT Achievement Award as “the man who invented the MRI scanner.â€? In 1988, he was awarded the National Medal of Technology, America’s highest award for applied science, and a year later, he was inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame, an honor he shares with Thomas Edison, Samuel Morse, and the Wright Brothers. The first MRI scanner that Dr. Damadian and his colleagues built in 1977 resides at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. Damadian is a Bible-believing Christian and attends a Baptist church in Long Island, New York. Dr. Damadian has stated that “the highest purpose a man can find for his life is to serve the will of God.â€?

Richard Lumsden (1938-97), Ph.D., converted from Darwinian atheist to Bible-believing Christian at the apex of his professional career when, challenged by one of his students, he decided to check out the evidence for himself. A professor of parisitology and cell biology, he was dean of the graduate school at Tulane University. He trained 30 Ph.D.s., published hundreds of scholarly papers, and was the winner of the highest award for parasitology.

Lee Spetner, author of “Not By Chance: Shattering the Modern Theory of Evolution,â€? has a Ph.D. in physics from MIT. He was a researcher with John Hopkins University from 1951-1970.

James Allan has a Ph.D. in genetics from the University of Edinburgh and was a senior lecturer in genetics at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. He is an international consultant in dairy cattle breeding. The testimony of his Christian faith was published in the book “In Six Days: Why Fifty Scientists Choose to Believe in Creation.â€?

Jerry Bergman, co-author of the book Persuaded by the Evidence, has five masters degrees and two Ph.D.s, one in human biology and another in measurement and evaluation. He had a 4.0 grade point average for both Ph.D.s and close to a 4.0 for all five of his masters degrees.

The Creation Research Society membership consists of more than 600 men and women who hold advanced degrees and are committed to biblical creationism.

Frank Marsh has a Ph.D. in biology and is emeritus Professor of Biology at Andrews University. He is the author of “Variation and Fixity in Nature: The Meaning of Diversity and Discontinuity in the World of Living Things, and Their Bearing on Creation and Evolution.â€?

Joseph Mastropaolo, who has a Ph.D. in kinesiology from the University of Iowa, has taught biomechanics and physiology at the University of Chicago and California State University. He holds the patent for crew conditioning for extended manned space missions. He is adjunct faculty at the Institute for Creation Research.

The speaking staff of Answers in Genesis includes 10 men and women who have earned doctorates. David DeWitt has a Ph.D. in neuroscience. Donald DeYoung has a Ph.D. in physics. Jason Lisle has a Ph.D. in astrophysics. David Menton has a Ph.D. in cell biology from Brown University. Tommy Mitchell has an M.D. from Vanderbilt University. Terry Mortenson has a Ph.D. in the history of geology. Gary Parker has a doctorate in education in biology/geology. Georgia Purdom has a Ph.D. in molecular genetics. Andrew Snelling has a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Sydney.

In April 2009, Terry Mortenson of the Creation Museum in America, said: “There are literally thousands of scientists around the world that believe the Bible. There is an organization in the United States with 700 scientists who have a Masters or Ph.D. in the hard sciences. The largest creation organization is not in the United States. It is in Korea, with over 2,500 Bible-believing scientists, over 250, the last I heard, with Ph.Ds.â€?

Of course, even if NO scientist disputed evolution, does not mean it is correct. The Bible says, “let God be true, but every man a liarâ€? (Romans 3:4), and Jesus said, “I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babesâ€? (Matthew 11:25).

The Blessings of a Humble Heart

Like most children, our youngest Carolyn, can be a real cutie and quite the little stinker as well. She gets the cutest expressions, especially when her father or I am teasing her. However, as we are reminded daily, she is a sinner in need of the salvation the Lord has provided us.

A few weeks ago, as siblings sometimes do, she was trying to get another sister in trouble by lying to me about a situation. When the truth was found out, I quoted this verse:

“A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it…” Proverbs 26:28

and explained that by lying to Mommy she was saying she hated me. The precious dear broke down and cried so hard.

“I don’t want to hate you!” she cried.

“I know, but that is what the Bible says,” I replied.

I’m so thankful we have such a good relationship, for since then, she has tried so very hard not to lie.  It has truly been a blessing to my heart to see how humbly she submitted herself to God’s Word.

I began to think about my relationship with my Lord. When I read His Word, is my heart humble and willing to submit like our daughter? Am I willing to quickly change the path I’m on if the Lord shows me it’s wrong? I wish I could say that I always line up with His Word, but to my shame, I don’t always line up right away or perfectly nor is my heart as tender when I do sin.

I want to strive to be like this little child.

The Greatest Honour

The Greatest Honour

Before I get into this devotional, I want to make it clear that our family does not follow most of what is on the TV. Besides an occasional history show and well screened movie, we usually only watch conservative commentators, reporters, etc.  The following thought came to me as I heard the tail end of a news report about a contestant of a very popular secular British TV show, Britain’s Got Talent. I guess it is the British equivalent of American Idol (another show we avoid.) It was the voice of Susan Boyle that stunned me into following her story.

Susan Boyle was basically a nobody. She is past middle-age, worked in her church, but was currently unemployed, and as I found out later has a learning disability due to oxygen deprivation during birth. She is not particularly pretty, but has a grandmotherly quality about her. She is someone you would easily pass by on the street without even noticing her. Please understand, I am NOT being critical, but rather making the observation that she is just the “average Jane”.

As she walked on stage and spoke of her ambitions of becoming famous as a singer, the audience laughed her to scorn while the judges tried not to snicker. But when she opened her mouth to sing, out came what I consider to be one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard! The audience and judges obviously held a similar view as the applause and chears roared. She won that competition and  the “hearts of the world” and had an album deal signed within a few weeks. She performed for the Britain’s Got Talent grand final, which she lost.

One of the honours she would have gotten upon winning the final contest was to sing before the Queen of England. For Americans, that would be like singing before the President, or Canadians – the Prime Minister. Now that’s quite an honour, I thought, but when I realized the following I was humbled and awed.

As children of God, we realize we really are no one special: nobodys. Just like Susan ,we have done nothing worthy to stand before a monarch, yet we have the highest honour and priviledge of singing for and speaking with and about the King of kings and Lord of lords any time! We have complete unfettered access to The Mighty God of all creation day and night, any moment of the day!  We can sing for him, and no matter how poor our voice sounds, He is ALWAYS pleased and to hear from a humble heart.

We “Get to” come before Him!

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. Psalms 95:2

Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands: Ps 66:1

Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob. Ps 81:1

O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Ps 95:1

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. Ps 95:2

Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Ps 98:4

With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King. Ps 98:6

A Psalm of praise. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Ps 100:1

Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious. Ps 66:2

Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day. Ps 71:8

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Ps 34:18

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Ps 51:17

LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear: Psalms 10:17

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

I don’t know if Susan Boyle can claim that great honour, and that grieves me greatly. She was not doing well emotionally before the final and had an “emotional breakdown” after and had to be hospitalized for possibly several weeks to recover. I kept thinking, what if she dies? Where will she go?

If you are a born again child of God, won’t you join me in praying for Susan that she might gain the highest honour of all: having the honour and privilege to humbly stand before the King of kings and Lord of lords as His child.

He that Goeth forth and Weepeth…

I have read Psalm 126 yearly for the last 15 years, but it was only this morning that I realized that the order of events are actually reversed.

Psalms 126:1-6 A Song of degrees. When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. 2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, 3 The LORD hath done great things for them. The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. 4 Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south. 5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

In Ps. 126:5-6 the psalmist is saying that while they were in captivity, they sowed in tears. Now that the Lord turned again thee captivity of Zion (126:1) they were reaping joy.

There’s several applications for people today:1

1. The Lost: Those whithout Christ are kept captive by the devil.

And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will. 2 Timothy 2:26

And it is only through a humble heart filled with repentance and faith that they can be set free.

Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 20:21

2. Christians:

A) Everyday life: Just like the children of Israel were in physical captivity, Christians can be in captivity spiritually. The only way to have our captivity turned is through a humble heart and repentance towards the Lord.

Ps. 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

B) Soulwinners: Likewise, for the soulwinner, the only way to reach the lost is to show them that we really do care. We MUST go forward with a weaping heart, and sometimes with tears!

If the child of God does not go soulwinning with a heart full of concern for souls, how will the lost world even consider what we are saying. The words will be as “sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.”1Cor. 13:1We MUST go forward with a weaping heart, and sometimes with tears!

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:1

In other words, it will just be a lot of confusing noise that has no application to the heart.

Do people see we care?

How can we reach a world we never touch?

How Can We Reach a World We Never Touch?

“Little Bitsey Trinkets”

As I was reading about Missionaries John and Betty Stam, this quote reminded me that when I hold on to that which is not important, God is not able to place in my hands that which is of eternal value. – Angela

“When we consecrate ourselves to God, we think we are making a great sacrifice, and doing lots for Him, when really we are only letting go some little bitsey trinkets we have been grabbing, and when our hands are empty, He fills them full of His treasures.”

Christmas Reminder

With the Christmas season upon us, I just wanted to post some reminders about what it is all about:

Isaiah 9:6-7  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Matthew 1:21-23  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Revelation 21:8  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ephesians 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Romans 5:8  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Revelation 1:5  ….Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Acts 20:21  … repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:9-10  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Hebrews 12:2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Let us NEVER forget that it’s ALL about HIM!
